TIME project

TECHNOLOGICAL IMPROVEMENT FOR ETHANOL PRODUCTION FROM LIGNOCELLULOSE

Contract number:
ENK6-CT-2002-00604

Duration: November 1st 2002 - October 31st 2005

The project provides solutions for improving the European security of energy supply and for reduction of environmental impacts in the transport sector. Increased utilisation of fuel-ethanol, produced from renewable raw materials, would lead to reduction of oil dependency and greenhouse gas emissions.

Main expected results

  • Chemical analysis and optimized conditions for pretreatments of chosen raw materials
  • Novel enzymes identified and produced
  • New process concepts for hydrolysis of lignocellulosics
  • Optimized systems for ethanol fermentation
  • Mass balances for raw materials
  • LCA and techno-economic assesment
